CHIVA CRAFT

The chiva is a typical public transportation vehicle in Colombia, known for its vibrant colors and decorations. Back in the 1970s, an Antioquia-born artist who settled in Pitalito started to make replicas of the chiva and with local clay and painted them by hand. This craft became a symbol of Colombia and is one of Huila’s protected craft through the appelation of origin recognition.

  • Paint and take home your own chiva in an artisan workshop guided by local guardians of this craft

  • Learn about the history of this craft by the team who advocated for the appellation of origin

  • Enjoy some local snacks like coffee, bocadillo (guava paste), empanadas, etc.
